Sprint 2 - Nearing the end!


Hello again!

This week was the final week of sprint 2 which means we have all the final mechanics in our game! During the next 2 weeks, we will be balancing and polishing these mechanics.

Here is our progress that we made this week:


ART

Final Textures for the characters



FX

A trail was added to the items to simulate the feeling they really come flying at you.


A splash effect is in the work to give the player more feedback when he/she gets hit, but it still needs a lot of work.

Trying to figure out how to do certain particle styles will take a bit, but it should work out in polish.


We added more detail to the environment and adjusted the lighting.




TECH

On the programming side we focused on adding the final mechnaics that had to appear in the game. A few things had to be left behind due to time constraint, one of them being the boss planting a knife in the playing area to limit the player movements. Having a mechanic that affect the area itself was fairly important so we decided to focus on such mechanic this week.
The boss now has the ability to throw wine barrels at the player. On direct hit, the player will be stun for 5 seconds, but if the barrel hit the ground, it will spill wine all over. The wine stays around for 10 seconds and slows down the player movements if they step in it.


We then implemented the targets for each items and had a first dip into setting up the artist's FX. The item target was a needed feature that helps the player predicting the trajectory of the throw items. Due to the camera position, it wasn't always easy to percieve the objects incoming.

The player finally got his shares of animations; jumping, running and dashing. It makes it comes to live more and the game becomes a bit more interesting thanks to it.
